It is also harder to clean these exotic rugs compared to cleaning a regular carpet.

It is normal for carpets to get dirty over time. They can get soiled more often if they are placed in high foot traffic areas like a hallway, foyer or dining room. If you want to clean or wash an Oriental rug, resist the urge to grab just any carpet cleaner to get your exotic carpet washed. Oriental rugs are made of more sensitive materials like silk. Special cleaning solutions are used for these kinds of carpets.

These are also loose rugs that are cleaned differently from wall to wall carpets that are stuck on your floor. You have to clean this type of carpet the right way to reduce damage to an expensive silk or fine woollen Oriental rug. You will need a broom, a big bucket, tarp, mild soap, vacuum cleaner, soft bristle brush, water hose, rug shampoo, and a squeegee to perform an Oriental rug wash.

The first thing you need to do is to clean your driveway or back patio. You can actually use any flat and sturdy outdoor surface that can be wet with water and soap. Sweep the surface of dirt or leaves and then place your rug on the floor over a clean tarp. Proceed to vacuum the front and back sides of the rug. Be careful about running the vacuum cleaner over the fringes if they look loose or worn out.

Fill your bucket with cool water and add about a tablespoon of liquid soap or rug shampoo into the bucket.

Mix the solution thoroughly. Position the rug with the front facing upwards. Dip your brush into the soapy solution and scrub the soft brush in a back and forth motion on the surface of the rug. Clean the fringes too with more gentle strokes.

Brush the surface in gentle even strokes that run the direction of the nap. Keep the surface very moist by constantly dipping the brush in the soap solution. Rinse the soap off the rug’s front side with the garden hose. Once satisfied with the rinse, dry the surface with a squeegee to get as much liquid out as possible. Remove the semi-dry rug from the wet tarp and lay it flat on a dry clean surface.

Try to perform rug cleaning san diego during summer months when the climate is warmer. Washing carpets during fall or winter will not let it dry fast enough to prevent it from becoming smelly or mouldy. Once the front part dries, flip the rug over to air dry the underside. If you find Oriental rug wash steps too difficult, you can always hire professional carpet cleaners to do it for you.
